The results indicated that while participation in the Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) in the United States, has steadily declined in the past 10 years, CFA was growing in the rest of the world.

In this article, we will look to see which countries specifically are the hot spots for CFA activity in recent years.

CFA is divided into separate regions around the world:

  • CFA Regions 1-7: include the United States & Canada
  • CFA Region 8: Japan
  • CFA Region 9: Europe

Analysis Of The Number Of CFA Shows Held In The Asia/Latin America Division 2012-2013

  • Without a doubt, China with 27 shows in 2013 and growing each year is the hot spot of CFA in Asia.
  • Indonesia at 5 shows a year and Brazil and Thailand with 4 shows a year each indicate a growing interest in CFA.
  • Participation in CFA in Malaysia and Singapore dwindling.
  • While both Mexico and the Philippines each held shows in the past 10 years, they have held no CFA shows for some time. The same is true for Bermuda.

The Growth Of CFA

With show entries and the number of shows declining in the US, CFA must look beyond the borders of the US for evidense of growth in the cat fancy.

By the end of the 2012-2013 show season, the countries outside the United States in which CFA participation was strongest were Japan and China with 28 shows and 27 shows respectively. Indicators would suggest that China will soon surpass Japan in the number of CFA shows held each year.

Europe is also showing a healthy growth in participation in CFA.

With 10 shows in 2012-2013,. Russia was the European country with the greatest number of shows.
