As we reach the heart of the summer, many people will be looking for a new kitten and the Spring litters will be ready to go.
Sooner or later, most breeders will get a request from a buyer looking for the perfect kitten.
These letters always make me giggle. This article is called The Perfect Kitten, but it could as easily be titled Unreasonable Expectations.
One of the characteristics I look for in a new home for a show kitten is reasonable expectations on the part of the kitten buyer.
While I have never received a inquiry like the one below, sometimes it FEELS like I have . . .
Dear Breeder,
I am interested in beginning a cat breeding program and so am looking for a very special kitten.
It must be a perfect representative of its breed.
I would like both its parents to be National Winners.
I would like it to be a smoke lilac van bi-color.
The cat must be in perfect health and have a lifetime guarantee to produce national-winning kittens in every litter.
I am on a limited budget and can pay no more than $100.
I hope you can hand deliver the kitten to my home before next weekend.
I may also be interested in purchasing a second kitten of similar qualities if I like the first one.

There are no perfect cats... and if I had one it wouldn't be for sale... and if I had one and it was for sale, it would cost A LOT!
